About the word pool
The generator draws from a locally bundled vocabulary of 240,784 retained entries. Expand a section for its source, selection rules, and limitations.
Source, filters, and vocabulary limitations
The bundled list is derived from word-list 4.1.0 by Sindre Sorhus. RandomTools retains entries made of 3–12 lowercase ASCII letters, removes blank and duplicate entries, and sorts the retained list for reproducibility. The package's MIT license notice and the source list's CC0 notice are bundled locally; no word-list package is loaded at runtime.
The pool can include technical, dialectal, inflected, and regional spellings, and its offensive-term filtering is incomplete. It is not frequency-ranked, and an output may be uncommon or unsuitable for a particular audience or word game. Treat results as prompts, not as definitions or suitability checks.
How word selection works
Every retained entry has an equal chance on each draw; common words are not deliberately favored over rare ones. Unique mode draws without replacement, so a word cannot repeat within one generation. Allow-repeats mode makes an independent draw for each position, so a word may appear more than once.
Each selection uses the browser's Web Crypto random-byte API with rejection sampling for bounded indices. The implementation has not been independently audited or certified, so use it for casual activities rather than consequential decisions.
Word-list download and processing
The browser requests the word file from this site's static assets only when words are first generated, then reuses the parsed list while the page remains open. The list is not sent to a third-party API or processed by a backend.
Random word generator FAQ
What if the word file cannot load?
The page shows an error and suggests checking the connection and trying again. The file is served from this website; no external word service is required.
Does the generator provide definitions?
No. It returns word entries without definitions, translations, or a check that a word fits a particular activity.
Can I use the results for a consequential decision?
The random selection has not been independently audited or certified. Use it for casual inspiration, not regulated drawings, gambling fairness, or other high-stakes decisions.
