About UUID version 4
A UUID v4 is a 128-bit identifier with version and variant bits reserved by its format. The remaining 122 bits come from a cryptographically secure random source. This tool uses the browser’s crypto.randomUUID() when available, or fills 16 bytes with crypto.getRandomValues() and sets the required version and variant bits.
The fallback keeps all 122 random bits uniformly distributed; it does not reduce random bytes with a modulo operation. If secure browser randomness is unavailable, generation stops and reports an error. No insecure random fallback is used.
UUIDs are designed to make collisions extremely unlikely across independent generators, not mathematically impossible. Do not treat a UUID as an authorization secret or access credential. Generation runs locally; values and display settings are not sent or saved.
